Study to be Done on City Centre Airport Medivacs

Alberta will do a study to see how Edmonton's International Airport compares to the City Centre Airport for running Medivac flights. Health Minister Gene Zwozdesky says they need to take another look at that before the City Centre airport closes. Envision Edmonton says moving the flights to the International, may cost lives, because it's 30-kilometres outside the city. The Health Quality Council of Alberta will do the study, and it's expected to take two to four months.

Stelmach Meets Pelosi

Premier Stelmach says U.S. Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, was very receptive in their talk yesterday. Stelmach says he told her that Alberta is doing everything it can to balance energy security with environmental responsibility and economic growth. He invited Pelosi to come for a visit and see the oilsands for herself.  But, so far, she hasn't accepted the offer.

Environmental Groups Try to Protect Cariboo in Oilsands Region

Alberta's oilsands industry could be facing a legal setback after aboriginal and environmental groups went to court to try to stop new industrial development in northeastern Alberta to protect caribou habitat.  Lawyer Barry Robinson says despite the federal Species At Risk Act, federal Environment Minister Jim Prentice has been missing in action on the issue. Scientific studies suggest caribou herds are at one-tenth their historic levels and habitat loss is the main reason.

Storm Open Season

The Grande Prairie Storm open the regular season tomorrow night. The Storm are hoping to get back to the glory days of 2008-2009 when they won the Enerflex Cup. Team Captain Darren Kramer from Peace River was a part of that team and he feels they have a team to compete this year. The quest for a championship begins at 7:30 at the Canada Games Arena when they host the Sherwood Park Crusaders.

MLB

The Texas Rangers finally figured out the Blue Jays. Enough for an 8-1 victory last night. Marc Rzepczynski  took the loss for Toronto and says he didn't make the pitches he needed to.

Meanwhile,
The race for first in the AL East was well under way last night. Former Jay Marco Scutaro smacked two of Boston's five home runs in an 11-5 pounding of the Rays. And with The Yankees 3-2 win over Baltimore, the Pin Stripes now hold a 2 and a half games lead over Tampa.

CFL

Edmonton has made some roster moves. They've traded for Offensive Guard Kelly Bates a 9 year vet who was recently with the Roughriders. Then they signed import wide receiver Marko Mitchell. Mitchell was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. In his rookie campaign he recorded four receptions for 32 yards in 10 showings. The club also released import offensive tackle Calvin Armstrong, import wide receiver Tremayne Kirkland and non-import wide receiver Kevin Wuthrich.

In the meantime,
Buck Pierce is trying to be optimistic, but it's looking like the Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback will be out for several weeks after dislocating his elbow during a game over the weekend. He still hasn't ruled out returning this season.
